Green Transportation With Solar Aircrafts
With so many developments taking place, the future only looks bright. The only major problem that we face is with respect to the total pollution levels. These take place due to combustion of fuel leading to the release of CO2 into the atmosphere causing greenhouse effect. The need for alternate sources of energy has been felt from a long time and scientists and researchers are working overtime to find a feasible solution. Potentially, solar power has emerged as the best replacement for fossil fuels.
Solar power means harnessing energy from the sun. The sun produces energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation. With the help of electronic equipment, this form of energy can be converted into electricity and stored. The big question is - how far can it go for us to witness a complete change of dependency? No doubt they have been successful in taking care of the household needs including home electricity, cooking, heating water and small distance transportation. However, can they be used for something as extensive as flying an aircraft? Or fueling a space craft into outer space?
According to the reports submitted by researchers, this mode of alternate fuel has shown some positive results when powering aircrafts. In the early years of the 20th century, testing was conducted for steam aircraft engines (similar to the stream train engines) and the results were highly successful. This has come as a ray of hope for those who have been pressing for adoption of alternate sources of energy for all commercial activities which cumulatively use up tons of barrels of fuel every day.

NASA, a premier institute in Space Research and Technology has made good achievements in the area of hydrogen cells. They are believed to have manufactured a solar aircraft that was able to stay in air for a period of 30 days!! While this is way higher than even what regular fossil fuels can give, the technology cannot be completely adopted as of now because it is still considered to be in its testing phases and there are issues that need to be taken care of before the technology can be made public. The techniques involved are pretty complex and resolving them requires the developers to show patience.
If things keep happening the way they are, green air transportation would not remain a dream for long. The day is not far when we would actually be booking tickets on planes which run on solar energy. Imagine the total reduction in the amount of CO2 across the world! Solar energy is hundred percent environmental friendly and no harmful substance is released into the atmosphere. While the initial investment is high, but low usage costs mean the investment can be covered within a very small time period.
When will this mode of green transportation hit the market is something that even the developers are not sure of. But whenever it does, it is sure to bring a huge revolution to how the world operated and uses power. With successful harnessing of solar energy in large amounts, the costs of various other commodities would also reduce drastically for the investment costs would decrease drastically.
